Electricity generated by solar photovoltaics is already the lowest-cost option available in almost any part of the world. Additional capacity in any size, from very small to full power plant, can be installed at very high rates (est. 60 GWp in Europe 2023). Still, the potential for further improvements in photovoltaic technology is immense. In this presentation, we will show how improved materials and device configurations hold the promise of further energy conversion efficiency increases, even further reduced environmental footprint and further cost reductions. The latter is also important to enable elimination of fossil fuels from the heating, transport and perhaps most importantly, the material sectors.
